Getting Started – Set Up Nightscout on NS10BE | Step by Step

What is Nightscout? — View CGM data online in real time

Nightscout is an open-source platform that allows people with Type 1 Diabetes (and Type 2) to display their CGM data (Continuous Glucose Monitoring) in real time on their own server. Your blood glucose is displayed online live — anywhere, anytime, on any device.

With a hosted Nightscout server on ns.10be.de, you don’t need Heroku, Railway, or your own server infrastructure. Custom Docker images, no command line, no DevOps knowledge needed — your Nightscout server runs in under 3 seconds, fully managed on EU servers in Germany.

Live glucose values
CGM data from Dexcom, Freestyle Libre, Medtronic, Medtrum, Glooko and more in real time on your Nightscout server
Followers & remote monitoring
Parents, partners or doctors can see the values live — from anywhere in the world
Loop & AAPS compatible
Full support for AndroidAPS, iPhone Loop, Trio and other closed-loop systems
Nightscout alternative to Heroku & Railway: Since Heroku discontinued its free tier, many are looking for a simple alternative. NS10BE is the world’s first dedicated Nightscout hosting provider — fully committed since before 2017.

Step 2: Create a new Nightscout server

Click “New Server” and choose a name for your server. This name becomes part of your personal Nightscout URL:

Your URL: https://[your-name].ns.10be.de
Also reachable at: https://[your-name].10be.de — both domains work.
Tip: Choose something short and memorable — the name will be visible in your apps.

Then choose your Branch:

  • master — Stable version, recommended for most users
  • dev — Latest features, before the stable release — for advanced users and developers

Set your API password (at least 12 characters) — you’ll need this later in your apps.

Choose your data source: Nightscout receives the CGM data from your sensor. Supported sensors include:

  • Dexcom G6 / G7 / ONE — via Dexcom Share or xDrip+
  • Freestyle Libre 1 / 2 / 3 — via LibreLinkUP, Juggluco or xDrip+
  • Medtronic — via xDrip+ or CareLink
  • Medtrum / Tandem t:connect — via server configuration
  • Eversense — via the ESEL app and xDrip+
  • AndroidAPS / iPhone Loop / iAPS — direct Nightscout integration
  • All Nightscout compatible apps and systems
Keep your API password safe — it is required to configure your Nightscout server and apps.

Step 3: Save — server running in < 3 seconds

Click “Save”. Your Nightscout server will start automatically — it’s reachable in under 3 seconds.

In the server overview you can see the status of your server. A green icon means: everything is running.

Now open your personal Nightscout URL in the browser and log in with your API password.

What happens behind the scenes? Your Nightscout server is started on an EU server in Germany. It receives an SSL certificate (HTTPS), its own subdomain and runs completely isolated. Automatic backups are created every 4–6 hours. You don’t have to worry about anything — no maintenance, no manual updates to install, one click on “Redeploy” is all it takes.

Step 4: Set up Nightscout profile

Open the menu (≡) in your Nightscout server and select “Profile Editor”. Enter your personal values — timezone, insulin duration, correction factor, basal rates and target range.

All profile values are medically relevant. Only use the values prescribed by your endocrinologist or your Loop/AAPS setup. Do not enter default values.
Important: After entering your values, click “Save” and then “Activate” — without activation the profile is not effective.

Within the first 3 days you can delete the server for free, and after that with a Stripe subscription you can also cancel free of charge within the first 3 days, so you can test for 6 days — no extra costs.

Invite followers — share CGM values with others

One of the most important Nightscout features: Followers can view your glucose values live — parents, partners, caregivers or your endocrinologist. This way you (and your circle) always have an overview of your blood glucose, even remotely.

How to set up followers:
  1. Create a follower token (read access) in your server overview
  2. Share the Nightscout URL together with the token — the follower can log in with it
  3. The follower opens the URL in a browser or enters it in an app (e.g. xDrip+ follower mode, Nightwatch or Nightscout widget)
Privacy: Follower tokens have read-only access — they cannot change settings or delete data. You can revoke, delete and change tokens at any time in Nightscout.

Configure alarms & notifications

Nightscout offers comprehensive alarm features that warn you and your followers about critical glucose values — directly in the browser or via connected apps.

Available alarms:
  • High blood glucose (High) — Warning when exceeding the upper threshold
  • Low blood glucose (Low) — Alert when falling below the lower threshold
  • Urgent high / low (Urgent) — Enhanced alarm for extreme values
  • Stale data — When the sensor stops delivering new values

Configure the thresholds in the server configuration on ns.10be.de under the BG threshold fields (High, Low, Target). Advanced alarm plugins like pushover, maker (IFTTT webhooks) or speech can be enabled via the plugin checkboxes.

Tip: For mobile push notifications, use Pushover or IFTTT — so you’ll be notified even when the browser is closed.

Live monitoring on smartwatch — blood glucose on your wrist

With Nightscout you can display your blood glucose live on your smartwatch — a quick glance at your wrist is enough to see the current value, trend and history.

Supported smartwatches:
  • Garmin — via the GlucoseWatch Connect IQ app
  • Apple Watch — via iPhone Loop or Nightguard
  • Wear OS (Google) — via xDrip+ watchface
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch — via xDrip+ or G-Watch
  • Fitbit — via the Glance app
  • Amazfit / Xiaomi — via xDrip+ with Notify app
All smartwatch apps access your Nightscout URL. You just need to enter the URL https://[name].ns.10be.de and optionally your API token in the watch app.

Migration from Heroku, Railway & more — move your Nightscout

Already have a Nightscout server on Heroku, Railway, Fly.io or another provider? Moving to ns.10be.de is easy — and you can take all your CGM data with you.

Three ways to migrate your data:
MongoDB import

Transfer your complete database — from MongoDB Atlas, Google Cloud or other providers. Just enter your MongoDB connection string.

API import

Nightscout-to-Nightscout: Transfer data directly via the API from your old server to the new one. Enter the old URL + token.

CSV import

Import data from Omnipod, LibreView, Dexcom Clarity or other CSV sources.

All import functions are available directly in your dashboard under Import or on our migration page. The process runs automatically — you can see the progress live.

Ready? Your Nightscout is waiting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to install anything?

No. ns.10be.de is fully web-based — no server setup, no command line, we handle the Docker images.

What happens when the 3 days expire?

The server is deactivated but not deleted. Your data is preserved. You can pay anytime to reactivate it — or delete it for free.

Can I have multiple servers?

Yes, as many as you like. Each server requires its own subscription. From the 2nd server you automatically receive a 25% discount coupon code.

Which CGM sensors are supported?

All common CGM systems: Dexcom G6/G7/ONE, Freestyle Libre 1/2/3, Medtronic, Eversense, Medtrum and more. Data is sent to your Nightscout server via apps like xDrip+, Juggluco, LibreLinkUP, Dexcom Share, iPhone Loop/Trio or AndroidAPS.

Can I use Nightscout without Loop or AAPS?

Yes, absolutely. Nightscout is not just for closed-loop systems. Many people use Nightscout solely for live display of glucose values in the browser, on their phone or on their smartwatch — with or without followers.

Where are the servers located? Is my blood glucose data safe?

All servers are located in Germany (EU) and comply with GDPR. The connection is encrypted via HTTPS. Your data belongs to you — you can export or delete it at any time.

I’m coming from Heroku / Railway — can I take my data with me?

Yes. Via the MongoDB import or API import you can transfer your complete Nightscout database. CSV imports from LibreView, Dexcom Clarity or Omnipod are also possible.

I’m stuck — where can I get help?

Directly via the contact form on ns.10be.de. You’ll receive a response through our ticket system or via chat/Facebook.
